Digital life certificate: Special camp to be held for central govt pensioners in Puducherry | Puducherry News

PUDUCHERRY: The department of pension and pensioners’ welfare, Union personnel, public grievances and pensions ministry will hold a special camp in Puducherry in collaboration with the State Bank of India for the central government pensioners to submit their life certificates through digital means. It will be held in Dr APJ Abdul Kalam auditorium on Jipmer campus at 10.30am on November 24.
A central government team from the department, the representatives from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Jipmer Pensioners’ Association will enlighten the members on the technique to submit life certificates digitally and do the same in future from their houses.
The camp is part of a nation-wide campaign to encourage and train central government pensioners to submit life certificates digitally using face authentication techniques.
Minister of state (independent charge) for personnel, public grievances and pensions Jitendra Singh launched the face authentication technique in November last year to enable pensioners to submit life certificates through any Android mobile phone.
The Union government directed all the registered pensioners’ associations, pension-disbursing banks, Union government ministries and central government health scheme (CGHS) wellness centres to hold special camps to promote digital life certificate/ face authentication techniques for ‘ease of living’ of pensioners.
This facility is also available to the pensioners of several other pension sanctioning authorities. Since October 1 this year, 67.9 lakh pensioners submitted life certificates digitally of which 3.64 lakh pensioners submitted certificates through face authentication. During the same period, 24.12 lakh central government pensioners submitted life certificates digitally of which 2.11 lakh pensioners submitted certificates through face authentication.
Earlier, life certificates had to be submitted in physical form. The pensioners had to stand in queues outside banks for hours to submit the certificates. Now, it has become possible at the click of a button from the comfort of their homes.
Pensioners have to furnish details regarding Aadhaar number, mobile number for OTP, pension payment order number, bank/ post office account number when they use the facility for the first time.
