Odisha launches Amlan to reduce anaemia | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government on Wednesday launched Anaemia Mukta Lakhya Abhiyan (Amlan), a multi-departmental campaign to reduce anaemia or haemoglobin deficiency in the state.
The health and family welfare, school and mass education, women and child development, mission shakti and ST and SC development departments will jointly roll out the initiative in 55,000 government and government aided schools besides 74000 anganwadis.
Major interventions planned include strengthening iron and folic acid supplementation among the targeted groups, testing for haemoglobin, treatment of anaemic cases, capacity building of service providers and social behaviour change through information, education and communication activities.
Launching the programme virtually, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said it will benefit about 1.37 crore people, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, women of reproductive age group, adolescents and children.
Terming the mission a giant leap, the CM said, “It’s our own programme for making the state free from anaemia, especially among women and children.”
The CM also released the Operational Guidelines for AMLAN.
According to National Family Health Survey 5 (2019-2021), more than 64% children in the six months to five years age group in Odisha are anaemic, which is slightly better than the national average of 67.1%. In case of women, however, it is worse than the national average. Compared to 57% women in the 15-49 years age group, 64.3% in Odisha area anaemic.
