Court Restrains Tipu Sultan Book Sale | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A city civil court on Tuesday passed a temporary injunction order restraining the distribution and sale (inclusive of online sale) of ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu’, a drama written by Rangayana director Addanda C Cariappa.
The order was passed on a suit filed by Raifulla BS, former chairman of the District Wakf Board Committee and resident of Bengaluru, and binds Ayodhya Publication (publisher) and Rashtrotthana Mudranalaya (printer) as well. “If the contents of the play are false and contains false information about Tipu Sultan, and if the same are distributed, it would cause irreparable loss to the plaintiff, and there are chances of breach of communal peace and harmony… It is common knowledge that controversial books sell like hot cakes,” the court said in its order.
The plaintiff had claimed the entire book contains wrong information about Tipu without support or justification from history. According to him, the book does not show from where the author has got the information.
