Silver-tongued Traffic Cop Dishes Out Safety Tips | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: A traffic cop attached to the Race Course police station has become a social media star for making witty remarks to instill safety culture among road users.
Police commissioner V Balakrishnan and corporation commissioner M Prathap recently appreciated head constable V Allidurai, 41, a native of Veeriruppu village of Sankarankoil in Tenkasi district, who is posted at the traffic booth on Lakshmi Mills Junction that has a public address system.
Recently, a video of Allidurai advising a private bus driver went viral on social media. “Motorists should not drive carelessly and scare off senior citizens. You may be young now, but will become a senior citizen one day. Please make way for senior citizens,” the cop had said. Two weeks ago, when rain caught motorists off guard, he said, “Consider it as a blessing.”
Motorists appreciate his remarks, Allidurai told TOI. “Thousands of motorists pass through Lakshmi Mills Junction every day. They have to wait for more than a minute at the signal. Though most of them face problems in the workplace and family, they should stay alert while driving. I try my best to brighten their mood. I am happy to get a thumbs-up and an appreciative smile in return.”
Allidurai recently conducted two awareness sessions for 120 traffic cops. “Traffic cops struggle to beat the heat, get wet in rain and inhale smoke and dust, to ensure safety of all road users,” he added.
