Jd(u) Flays Shah On ‘rewriting History’ | Patna News

PATNA: State finance minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on Saturday criticised the BJP ruled Centre and Union home minister Amit Shah for his statement on “misrepresentation of the country’s history” and his support to “rewrite” it.
“History is written on the basis of available facts and evidence, not by confusing people through the instruments of propaganda and publicity,” the senior JD(U) minister said while taking a jibe at Shah for his announcement that the Centre would provide assistance for rewriting history.
Shah, addressing a function on Thursday held to commemorate Ahom (medieval Assam) general Lachit Borphukan, who had fought against the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, appealed to historians, students and scholars to identify 30 great empires and 300 warriors and rewrite their history to set the facts right. He also announced central assistance for their endeavour.
Choudhary said earlier the Centre under the BJP dispensation and Shah used to talk about rewriting of the country’s history in a restrained manner. “Now they are making open calls for it, but history is written based on facts. Otherwise, it can only be distorted and only result in misrepresentation of facts,” Choudhary said.
He said the saffron elements played no significant role in the freedom struggle and, therefore, they have decided to promote misrepresentation of history to gratify themselves. “But the people of the country are ever watchful and also looking at them,” he added.
He also said the country has not ignored the contribution of Borphukan. His statue is installed on the campus of National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla and its best candidate is given gold medal in his name.
