Mysuru Bishop goes on leave citing health concerns | Mysuru News

MYSURU: The Bishop of Mysuru, Rev Fr KA William, who faced protests from priests in his division over handling of a complaint filed by a woman against a priest more than three years ago, has gone on leave from Saturday citing health reasons.
The archbishop emeritus of Bengaluru, Rev Fr Bernard Moras, has been appointed the administrator for the diocese that covers Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts.
According to a press release issued by the diocese of Mysuru, Rev Fr William’s leave will take effect from Sunday and he will be “taking care” of his health during the period. “We pray he returns to the diocese at the earliest,” the note added.
Accused of not acting on complaint against priest
Sources claimed that Bishop William, in the year 2019, was accused of not taking up a complaint of misconduct made by a woman against a priest. Later, a few community leaders had demanded a probe into the alleged incident, but the bishop had denied the allegations.
Karnataka high court former judge Justice Michael F Saldanha said as many as 37 priests coming under Mysuru chapter had sought a probe against Bishop William after charges were made some two years ago. “Recently, I wrote to the Mysuru heritage committee against the demolition of the iconic 113-year-old Bishop House,” he told TOI.
Born in 1965 in Pollibetta of Kodagu district, William did formal and religious education in Mysuru and completed a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Bengaluru’s St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary. In 1993, he was ordained as a priest for the diocese of Mysuru, according to the press release.
