Atiq Ahmed’s close aide suffers gunshot injuries in encounter in UP | Allahabad News

PRAYAGRAJ: A wanted history-sheeter, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, was injured and arrested in an encounter with the police on Sunday morning.
Mohd Zarrar Ahmad, 44, is an associate of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, police claimed.
A resident of Rahmatpur village, Zarrar has been admitted to the district hospital in Fatehpur for treatment.
The exchange of fire between the criminal and the joint team of Khakhreru police and SWAT wing took place near Kulli village in Fatehpur.
Superintendent of police, Fatehpur, Rajesh Kumar Singh told TOI, “Zarrar was wanted in connection with eight criminal cases. He had taken shelter near the Kulli forest area.”
“A joint team of Khakhreru police and the SWAT wing of district police received information that Zarrar was moving around a forest area. When cops intercepted him and asked him to surrender, the history-sheeter opened fire on the police team”.
Police said that Zarrar suffered gunshot injuries on his right leg.
The police have also recovered a rifle, one .38 bore revolver and live cartridges.
The police claimed that the injured history sheeter and his family members were close to Atiq Ahmed.
Moreover, Mohammad Ahmad, the elder brother of the injured criminal, had recently surrendered in the court and is currently lodged in Fatehpur district jail.
A joint team of Fatehpur police, revenue department and the administration had, on March 16, razed a two-storey house belonging to Ahmad and his younger brothers Zarrar and Alamdar at Rahmatpur village under the limits of Khakhreru police station.
Police claimed that Ahmad and his brother Zarrar had allegedly grabbed a pond’s land at Rahmatpur village and illegally constructed their house on it.
When district authorities checked documents, they found that the two-storey house was allegedly constructed on pond’s land. The team later freed the pond’s land from encroachers.
Police said Ahmad’s father, late Mohammad Athar, had a criminal record and a total 30 criminal cases were registered against him in different police stations of Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and other districts. Athar was also a close associate of Atiq.
“After the death of Athar, his sons Ahmad, Zarrar Ahmad and Alamdar developed close association with Atiq. While seven criminal cases were pending against Ahmad, eight and two criminal cases were pending against Zarrar and Alamdar, respectively,” a police officer said.
