Chhath Puja Festival: Chhath: Devotees fast on Day 2 Prayagraj: Considered to be toughest day of Chhath puja festival | Allahabad News



Prayagraj: Considered to be toughest day of Chhath puja festival, women devotees on Saturday celebrated Kharna with observing strict 36 hours long fasting.
On the day of Kharna, offerings of jaggery kheer, rice or flour bread are being made. Women devotees observe the 36 -hour ‘nirjala’ fast after consuming the mahaprasad of Kharna. After consuming the prasad of kharna, the fasting devotee could not consume water as well as food.
Noted religious scholar Amitabh Gour says “ On the day of kharna, fasting women follow rituals strictly. They after observing nirjala vrat for the entire day, kharna prasad is being prepared on the earthen stove or on new gas stove after sunset. After this, jaggery kheer, fruit, etc are offered to the Lord. After offering food to the Lord, the devotees consumes the prasad of kharna. After receiving the prasad of the fast, the entire family consume the mahaprasad of kharna. It is believed that fasting on Chhath brings happiness, long life and good health. Devotees also achieve success and prosperity.

The post-Diwali festival of Chhath Puja will be celebrated by natives of Bihar in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. Devotees write to PM, demand national holiday on Chhath; Noida DM reviews preparations
The national president of All India Hindu Mahasabha (AIHM) and All India Pravasi Mahasabha (AIPM) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a public holiday on the day of Chhath Puja. The president argues that a holiday would provide relief to the large population of people from the East who celebrate the festival, particularly women who observe a strict four-day fast without water. The GB Nagar district magistrate has also held a meeting to oversee preparations for the Chhath pujas across the district, ensuring coordination among various departments for sanitation, water, lighting, and traffic management.
Ensure safe power supply to devotees
The energy department in the state of Bihar has made comprehensive preparations for the safe supply of electricity during the four-day Chhath festival. Control rooms, maintenance of transformers and supply lines, pruning of trees, and insulation of poles have been planned. Temporary control rooms have been set up near all the Chhath ghats, and senior officers and electrical engineers are monitoring the ghats round-the-clock. Various maintenance works have been undertaken, including the installation of insulated cables, fixing of new cables, elevation of service wires, and replacement of old poles. The electric poles are being painted and the LT panels covered with plastic sheets for safety.
