Dibrugarh University: Dibrugarh University NAAC Ranking: ‘A’ to ‘B++’ | Guwahati News

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh University has experienced a decline in its National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ranking from ‘A’ to ‘B++’ in the fourth cycle of accreditation. The university achieved a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.79, falling short of the NAAC benchmarks.
Despite significant progress in various areas since the previous NAAC assessment in 2017, the university faced challenges in meeting the revised and more stringent NAAC criteria.Although research paper publications increased by 300%, it was still insufficient to meet the NAAC benchmark.
“The recent NAAC benchmarks are exceptionally high. There are also some internal shortcomings that need to be addressed before the next cycle,” stated Prof Kalyan Bhuyan, director of the internal quality assurance cell of Dibrugarh University. To regain its ‘A’ grade in the next cycle, Dibrugarh University will need to take measures to improve its performance in several areas, including research, teaching and infrastructure, he added.
A seven-member NAAC peer team led by Prof Sanjay Singh, vice chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, conducted the evaluation process for the fourth cycle of assessment and accreditation of Dibrugarh University that took place from November 6 to 8.
In March 2017, Dibrugarh University was awarded ‘A’ certification from NAAC, an autonomous body under the University Grants Commission.
The drop in grading is definitely a setback for Dibrugarh University since better NAAC grading enhances international recognition and acceptance of the institution. It also facilitates collaborations with foreign universities, student exchange programs and attracts foreign students.
The accreditation status often plays a crucial role in eligibility for grants, research funding and scholarships. Moreover accredited institutions often have better placement opportunities and tie-ups with industries, leading to improved job prospects for students.
NAAC accreditation is a quality assurance process that evaluates the overall performance of colleges and universities based on various parameters. According to the NAAC grading system, universities and colleges are assessed on a scale ranging from A++ (3.76-4.00 CGPA) to D (up to 1.50 CGPA), with D signifying denied accreditation.
