Chandigarh. A case of fraud of Rs 57 lakh has come to light in the name of helping someone close to the Union Minister in changing the location of a petrol pump in the city. Sector-49 police has registered a case of fraud against Delhi resident Mohit Gogiya and others and started investigation. At present, no one has been arrested.
Kamalpreet Singh, resident of Sector-49, told that he was selected for petrol pump in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab. But due to the commencement of construction of Railway Ovirbraj at the site determined by the State Government, there was a need to change the place. During this time, his acquaintance Kanta Meena advised him to contact Delhi resident Mohit Gogiya.
Mohit Gogia described himself as close to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and assured Kamalpreet that he would get the petrol pump allotted in Chandigarh. In return, Gogiya collected a total of Rs 57.5 lakh from them. The complainant transferred Rs 47.5 lakh to Gogiya's Yes Bank account in April 2023 and Rs 10 lakh to the account of another person in December 2022. Gogia also gave a fake letter in the name of Hardeep Puri, in which he was described as 'Steel Minister'. The complainant found this suspicious, as Hardeep Puri had never held this post. When Kamalpreet questioned this mistake, Gogiya asked him to ignore it. Later, when a release was issued by Bharat Petroleum, Kamalpreet realized that he had been cheated.
He lodged a complaint at the public window of the SSP. After investigation, Sector-49 police registered a case against Mohit Gogia and others under fraud and other sections. Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing and the accused will be arrested soon.
