ISKANDAR PUTERI: The government has adopted an all-hands-on-deck approach in response to the ongoing flood crisis, following directives from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, said the Prime Minister had instructed all government agencies and departments, including the Fire and Rescue Department and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), to actively assist flood victims.
“All ministers and their deputies have been instructed to go to the flood-hit areas to help those in need; this is a challenge of climate change that we must face together,” she said.
She made these comments after officiating the ‘Bersamamu Johor’ Clean City Initiative at the Educity Sports Complex here on Saturday (Nov 30).
Aiman Athirah also mentioned that leave for all personnel in agencies under the ministry, including those in the Fire and Rescue Department, has been suspended.
She added that resources and manpower are being deployed at full capacity in Kelantan and Terengganu, with additional support ready to be mobilised from other states if needed.
“The focus remains on saving lives, with the department coordinating closely with other agencies to ensure efficient rescue operations,” she said.
Earlier, Anwar was reported as saying that leave for all Cabinet ministers has been frozen due to the current flood situation in the country.
He said all ministers and their deputies had been instructed to go to the flood-hit areas to provide necessary assistance.
“All ministers have been told to go to the ground now. Yes, leave has been frozen for them,” he said.
